Does it need to go in the freezer first?
No. There is nothing to freeze, fill, or plug in. The gel works off your pet's own weight, so it starts doing its job when they lie down, and it cools back down on its own once they get up.
How long does it stay cool for?
We have not timed it on the real product, so we are not going to print a number we cannot stand behind. It cools on contact and it recharges between naps. If you want a mat with a guaranteed runtime, this is not that product, and honestly no gel mat is.
It arrived and it does not feel cold in my hand. Is it broken?
Probably not. It is not a freezer pack, so it sits at room temperature until something warm presses on it. Lay it flat and hold your palm on one spot for thirty seconds. If it still does nothing, email support@reliablegoods.net and we will sort it out.
My dog chews everything. Will it survive?
The top is a tougher, wipe-clean surface than a fabric bed cover, but no mat is dog proof. Watch a determined chewer the first few times. If your dog does puncture it, stop using it and get in touch. We have not tested the gel inside ourselves, so we are not going to tell you it is harmless.
What size should I get?
Size up rather than down, because the cooling only happens where your pet's body actually touches the mat. Measure your pet lying stretched out, from the tip of the nose to the base of the tail, and add a few inches so they are not hanging off the edge. If your dog curls up instead of stretching out, measure the width of their usual bed spot. Caught between two sizes, take the larger one.
Can I wash it?
Wipe it with a damp cloth and let it dry flat. Do not put it in the washing machine or the dryer, and do not fold it away wet.
