Why the mouse is on a cord

A ball that keeps changing direction

A ball rolling across the floor in a straight line is easy to predict. One that turns without warning is not, and that is the kind of movement this toy is built around.

The motor inside rolls the ball and turns it, and the plush mouse on its elastic cord trails behind and darts around as it goes, so there is always something moving a beat behind the ball.

A wall or a chair leg sends it off on a new heading. Now and then a tight corner will hold it until you nudge it back out.

The cats and floors it suits

  • The cat who walks past a ball that just sits there but goes after anything that moves.
  • Evenings on the couch when you want to watch your cat play while the toy does the moving.
  • Homes with wood, tile or laminate floors for it to roll across.
  • The owner who also wants a wand toy, since the mouse dangles straight off the cord.

On the floor or on the cord

It moves by itself

A battery-driven motor inside the ball rolls it across the floor in changing directions, so there is something on the move without you dragging a string around.

A mouse that trails behind

A plush mouse is attached to the ball by a thin elastic cord. As the ball rolls and turns, the mouse trails along behind it and darts around.

Or dangle it yourself

Take hold of the cord and you do the moving instead. Drag the mouse low across the floor or dangle it just out of reach, at whatever pace your cat likes.

How to play with it

1

Set it on a hard floor

Start it on a kitchen or hallway floor rather than a thick rug. Hard floors work best.

2

Let it wander

Set it down and step back. It picks its own route around the room, and each time it turns, the mouse swings out after it.

3

Stay close, then put it away

Play with it while you are in the room, and put it away when you leave, because of the cord and the plush mouse. If the mouse, cord or ball is chewed, torn or cracked, take it away.

What is in the box

One ABS plastic ball and one plush mouse, joined by a thin elastic cord. Blue Orange with a feather-tailed mouse, or Dark Gray with a gray and white mouse. Battery powered. The supplier’s listing does not give the battery type or run time yet. Made for cats, for play while you are in the room.

Questions people ask first

Will my cat actually play with it?
We cannot promise that, and nobody honestly can. It gives your cat something moving to chase, but every cat makes up its own mind. If yours wants nothing to do with it, you have 30 days to get your money back, and you do not pay return shipping.
Does it get stuck, and will it roll on carpet?
It turns when it bumps into something, but we are not going to promise it never gets stuck: a tight corner or a low gap under the sofa can still catch it, and then you free it by hand. Hard floors work best. Thick rugs and carpet slow any rolling ball down, this one included.
How is it powered, and is it loud?
It is battery powered, and the motor makes a sound while it runs, so start it a little way off from a wary cat. The supplier’s listing does not give the battery type or run time yet.
Can I leave it out while I am at work?
No. Put it away when you are not there. The mouse hangs off a thin elastic cord and the mouse itself is plush, so this is a toy for when you are around to watch. Give the cord and the mouse a quick look before each session, and throw the toy out if either is chewed or torn, or if the ball is cracked.
Is it tested to a toy safety standard?
No. We have no safety certification for this toy, so we do not claim one. That is why this page tells you to stay in the room while it is out, put it away when you leave, and retire it once anything on it is chewed, torn or cracked.
What is the difference between the two colors?
Blue Orange is a blue and orange ball with an orange and blue plush mouse and a feather tail. Dark Gray is a gray ball with a gray and white plush mouse.

Who you are buying from

ReliableGoods is a small shop I run myself. My Bernedoodle Mazie is the reason it exists. This one is for the cats. We do not have a cat ourselves, so this page tells you what the toy is and does not promise how your cat will take to it.

I pick the products, I write these pages, and I answer the email. If something arrives wrong, or it just is not what you hoped, write to me and you will get a person.
